Feedback

Today I presented my pitch to the class, the first one is the rock band music January Sun, most of them like the idea, especially the coffin and the glow stick dance. The general scene is very dark and lighting from the back of four “black man”, I have a  clearer concept of the lighting and scene setting.

It’s important to let the images fit together, from the colour, to the lighting, style, etc, and all of these elements should feel like parts of the same thing, rather than just random stuff. The media department could make a coffin, and it’s affordable for us to buy one on Amazon, but we should develop and extend each of the elements, and get more pictures from the prop, so it’s useful in the whole video and build up variety. Also, SAFETY IS VERY CRITICAL! Water scene seems unlikely to happen in the studio, because it’s dangerous to be film in the studio with electricity and equipments. The band performance could be film in another area, for example the car park. We should find another way to shoot the dark feeling of the rock band performance, that could be cool as the water one.

Changes

KI1a: Water scene can not be film in the studio

According to the safety accessment, it‘s difficult to film water scene in the studio

Try spray in front of the camera?/ use other ways(e.g. blue and red lighting)

Go for the vintage style!

KI1b: Get more pictures from the prop

Should develop the use of props(e.g. coffin) to get more shoots

At the ending scene, the man go back to sleep(into the coffin) and suddenly open his eyes, and realise he is on his bed and that was a dream.

KI1c: Location of band performance

Try to keep in a small scale, because the studio is not very big(but the lighting is excellent)

Add lighting part in performance and play with the glow stick part

KI1d: Elements should fit together

A general feeling is needed, do not repeat something we have seen, but create something interesting (base on the financial support and availability)

Similar colours, lighting(dark, blue, red)

1990s band performance style
Also, I am think of inviting Sophie’s (House Master) cat to be in the shoot, because her eyes expression is very aggressive and sensitive.

For the second one, the problem is, someone performing a long time on his own is a bit awkward, and it’s better to add more communication with the angles and  things going backward or forward between them. It’s complicated to organized band and four girls, it’s easier for a soloist to rehearse and making decisions.
