Concept Development

 Today, we found many of similar images of the Pitch ‘January Sun’, and discussed about the potential location, casting(band performance), and setting. Dylan knows a band, so he contacted them via Snapchat. Jack found some amazing music video on YouTube that are relevant to death, vampire and vintage style. I did some research on the articles about African death culture. For them, the concept of death is a good thing, it is not the end of the life, but another start of the soul. Therefore, they celebrate death in the funeral.

Relevant Music Video:

                                              This is Gospel- Feuled by Ramen

There are not many locations in the video, which reduce the cost and time, lip syncs are the majority in those shoot. The general scene setting is quite dark, and hardly see any extra objects, which make it simpler and easier to film. I like the idea of the interaction with the doctors and the story from the surgery to the coffin, which is not normal in music video. Also, there are many shoots to show different elements in the video, which make it look interesting. However, in terms of the visual design, I think there could have more improvement on the use of colour and colour saturation.

Artical 1: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5072226/

According to the African belief system, life does not end with death, but continues in another realm. Becoming an ancestor after death is a desirable goal of every individual, a feat which cannot be achieved if an individual asks for an unnatural death by attempting to utilize advance care directives

Article 2: http://www.deathreference.com/A-Bi/African-Religions.html

Death does not alter or end the life or the personality of an individual, but only causes a change in its conditions. This is expressed in the concept of "ancestors," people who have died but who continue to "live" in the community and communicate with their families.

Death, although a dreaded event, is perceived as the beginning of a person's deeper relationship with all of creation, the complementing of life and the beginning of the communication between the visible and the invisible worlds.

Generally, death is a positive thing for the black culture, these infomation shows that, the general style of our music video could be fun, and exciting. It doesn’t have to look sad and terrifying. Also, according to the articles, the storyline of the music video could be:

Delivering the coffin->Buried ->Resurrection (Soul)

Also, I have another thought about the opening: a man is playing Super Mario in front of the computer games, the camera zoom in the screen of the game, and mario dead, Game over. Music Start:

 After this, the Music starts, and the four coffin men come from the smoke
(Effect Photo)
This scene could film at the theatre
